Cathleen Dettmann honored with a Women in the Law Award

We at Palmersheim Dettmann, S.C. would like to brag about Attorney Cathleen A. Dettmann, because she won’t do it herself and we get the added bonus of making her feel uncomfortable by doing so. Cathleen has been recognized as a 2019 Woman in the Law by the Wisconsin Law Journal. Dettmann and 21 other outstanding female attorneys in the State of Wisconsin were honored with the award by the Wisconsin Law Journal. The award is presented to the top women in the practice of law, who not only serve their communities but also work to pave the way for the future success of other women in the law.

Attorney Dettmann was recognized for her work as an outstanding and successful trial attorney. In an era where fewer and fewer civil cases make it trial, Dettmann has tried many cases in state and federal court. Although men tend to land prominent roles at trial far more frequently than women, Dettmann has been part of and led teams in cases tried to both juries and judges.

This year, along with Attorney Erin Rome, Dettmann led an all-female trial team to a successful jury verdict in a theft of corporate opportunity case. In the last year and a half alone, Dettmann has tried and won three jury trials, including prevailing with fellow shareholder, Kevin Palmersheim, after a seven day jury trial in a complex case involving the Wisconsin Fair Dealership Law and its application to Madison’s former municipal golf professionals. Dettmann and Palmersheim prevailed in that case, after first successfully persuading the Wisconsin Supreme Court that the dealership law could apply to municipalities. Dettmann also teamed with Palmersheim in a one week trademark trial in federal court, resulting in a jury verdict in her client’s favor finding infringement.

We are not uncomfortable stating that Cathleen Dettmann is one of the best business attorneys in Wisconsin. The Women In The Law Award from the Wisconsin Law Journal simply confirms what we already knew, and we congratulate Cathleen on the recognition.
