Kimberly D. Sweatt, Wisconsin Business Litigation AttorneyKimberly D. Sweatt is an associate attorney at Palmersheim Dettmann. She concentrates her practice on business litigation, including general contract disputes, application of the Wisconsin Fair Dealership Law, shareholder oppression, business law, and appellate practice. Kimberly also has experience representing clients on employment-related matters, including issues related to discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination.

In addition to being an experienced litigator, Kimberly owns and operates a small business with her husband. This practical experience coupled with knowledge of legal issues, allows Kimberly to effectively advocate for her clients in the legal system while also providing them with practical real-world advice. Kimberly also assists clients with transactional matters such as business formation and reviewing and drafting contracts.

Prior to joining Palmersheim Dettmann, Kimberly practiced civil litigation in both state and federal court in areas spanning personal injury, civil rights, employment, product liability, and insurance bad faith. Kimberly passionately represents client interests, works diligently to analyze case merits to seek maximum recovery and propel positive resolution to complex legal matters. Kimberly has proven success achieving advantageous outcomes.

Kimberly received her undergraduate degree in Legal Studies from the University of Wisconsin- Madison and her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School. After receiving her B.A., Kimberly worked as a paralegal for several years. During that time, she and her husband started an electrical contracting business, which they continue to own and operate. Kimberly returned to law school to help others obtain justice where they have been wronged. During law school, Kimberly served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Shirley S. Abrahamson at the Wisconsin Supreme Court. In that capacity, she researched issues before the Court, analyzed appellate briefs, authored bench memoranda, and recommended dispositions. Kimberly also assisted Justice Abrahamson in preparation of an opinion. She was also active on the board for the Wisconsin International Law Journal.

Nationwide, preliminary Injunction blocks enforcement of Corporate Transparency Act and BOI reporting requirements.

On December 3, 2024, the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Texas granted a preliminary injunction that bars the US Treasury/federal government from enforcing the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) and the requirements for entitles and persons to file reports with FinCen disclosing company and personal beneficial ownership information(BOI). This preliminary injunction is immediate, and applies nationwide. While many businesses have already filed reports, those who have not can hold off – at least for now.
